I am a dance artist making work between Cornwall and London. Growing up by the sea in Cornwall, I feel connected to the ocean, land, and sky and changing weather. My work explores themes of nature, light, space, and perception and Is inspired by my work as a performer. – I have worked with choreographers including Charlie Morrisey, Theo Lowe, Zoi Dimitri, Alison Curtis-Jones and Hubert Essakow, and as a teacher – working with many different ages and experiences, teaching contemporary, creative dance and Yoga including in Primary schools across London, at The Place, with CAT The Place, dance company Kin and students at Roehampton University.
I first found a love of contemporary dance through Cornwall Youth Dance Company and then with Swindon Centre for Advanced Training programme (CAT) (Exeter Contemporary Programme). Subsequently, I studied on the BA programme at Trinity Laban and went on to develop my choreographic practice through an MA (Developing Your Artistic Practice) at London Contemporary Dance School, graduating with Distinction. I have since completed a 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Nepal, and this past year, have been exploring hip-hop and contemporary dance styles, including during a year-long training course with Avant Garde Dance Company and through training in popping.
I am fascinated by the endless possibilities and combinations of movement and am inspired by opposites: delicacy and power, exaggeration and understatement, softness and tension. I am interested in the connection of our mind and body – how what we think impacts our movement and our movements can influence our thoughts and I enjoy developing complex, articulate, and dynamic movement that develops from physical tasks and challenges. I am interested in musicality, working with rhythms of choreography and music – finding complexity of movement that goes with and against intricacies and details of sound. I discover movement through researching in my own body and am greatly inspired by collaborating and creating with other dancers.
May 2023, my new work, Gathering Clouds, was selected to premiere at Resolution Festival, The Place. The piece explores our experience of weather, centring around the movement of storms, waves, and clouds. It looks at connections between each other and the natural world, drawing attention to the climate crisis. I am interested in exploring ideas of power and sensuality that arise from this research.
