Swinging Success as Lindy Hop Workshop Helps Celebrate 90 Years of the Town Gardens Bowl

The spirit of the 1930s came alive at Swindon's historic Town Gardens Bowl as dozens of adults stepped back in time for a lively Lindy Hop dance workshop celebrating the venue's 90th anniversary.

South Swindon Parish Council invited Swindon Dance to lead the special event on Sunday 16 August, with renowned dance artist Zoe Humphries at the helm. The session proved a huge hit with the community, attracting 29 participants and coming close to a complete sell-out.

Inspired by the infectious energy of Lindy Hop, the popular swing dance that emerged in the 1930s, attendees were treated to an hour of music, movement and vintage charm. Designed to be accessible for all, the workshop welcomed complete beginners and experienced dancers alike, with no partner required.

Participants learned easy-to-follow steps while immersing themselves in the upbeat rhythms and joyful atmosphere that have made Lindy Hop a beloved dance style around the world. Laughter, music and enthusiasm filled the Bowl as dancers embraced the chance to try something new and celebrate the venue's rich heritage.

Zoe Humphries guided the group through the session, creating a warm and welcoming environment that encouraged everyone to get involved, build confidence and enjoy the experience together.

The near-capacity attendance highlighted the strong community support for the Town Gardens Bowl anniversary programme and demonstrated the continued appeal of events that bring people together through music, culture and movement.
